Martin Keene is Group Picture of PA Media, and leads the agency's coverage of news, sport and entertainment across the United Kingdom and Ireland. He trained as a Chemical Engineer, but realised during his studies that press photography would be a lot more interesting than peering at distillation columns in oil refineries. He started his career at PA as a photographer in 1986, before specialising in the British Royal family. He was appointed to his current role in 1995 and has managed the agency’s coverage of Royal wedding, funerals, births and anniversaries, seven General Elections and an Olympic Games. He is a Member of the Royal Victorian Order and a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society as well as the author of Practical Photojournalism: A Professional Guide. Living in west London, in the shadow of the world famous Botanical gardens at Kew, he has, like many of, been leading his team while working from home during the pandemic.
