South Korean newswire opens global press photo exhibition depicting life during pandemic

South Korea's key news agency, Yonhap, opened a photo exhibition dedicated to the coronavirus pandemic in Seoul on Tuesday. The exhibition dubbed “At the Scenes of the Pandemic” features 120 images taken by reporters from 47 leading news agencies from around the world, including TASS.

"These photos remind us of the responsibility to overcome the crisis and the need to proclaim a new post-coronavirus era by uniting and acting jointly with the entire world," Yonhap President and CEO Cho Sung Boo said at the ceremony. The exhibition is being held at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History, which is its co-host.

The photos were curated into four themes: A Beginning Without an End; Control vs. Freedom; World in Standstill, Contact-free is the New Norm; and Cooperation, Togetherness. The images were taken in 70 cities around the world - from Moscow to Marrakesh - and tell the story of how people live and interact with each other, showing the power of love and devotion in resisting infection and death.

Moscow is featured in a photo taken by TASS News Agency photo correspondent Sergey Karpukhin at the COVID-19 hospital based at the Russian capital’s Pirogov Center. It shows a hospital employee with a patient in an intensive care corridor.

"Photos that show the truth evoke strong empathy. These images not only reflect the intensity of the captured moments, but also carry a message of hope, make us share the pain, yet maintain hope and fortitude," said Jeong Eun-kyeong, commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, in a video message to the organizers. She also thanked all those who are taking part in the fight against the pandemic in one way or another.

The exhibition is open until March 1, and admission is free of charge.
