Nearly 5,000 images from 74 countries submitted for News Photo Awards. A Changing World contest

The process to enter the second international competition for professional press photographers News Photo Awards.  A Changing World has been wrapped up.  Journalists from 74 countries submitted nearly 5,000 photographs. The countries most actively participating in the competition are China, the United States, India, Turkey, Brazil, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Russia.

The world-renowned TASS Russian News Agency, is the organizer of the News Photo Awards.

“A Changing World has grown out of the 2020 Overcoming COVID competition. However, if in 2020 the photojournalists focused primarily on the pandemic, in 2021 we wanted to have a broader view of what is going on around the world. The competition reflects both global and local changes in the lives of people and their countries, showcasing all the important events of 2021.  I understand how complicated showing the dynamics of change at work in the world can be just using photography, even for a professional photojournalist.  Aside from luck and the ability to be in the right place at the right time, which does have its risks, it requires an in-depth understanding of the story, and how to convey it.  Real professionals stepped up to this challenge. After all, it gives photographers an excellent chance to become widely known and to show their worldview to quite a diverse audience,” said Grigory Dukor, who is chairing the contest’s jury and heads the Photo and Video Service at TASS Russian News Agency

Over the course of a month, the international jury made up of 12 photojournalism experts from world-class mass media outlets such as Action Press Agency, ANSA, Anadolu Agency, AFP, DPA, EFE, Kyodo, TASS, Xinhua, Yonhap, will go through the submissions and choose the winners.

All submissions will be presented anonymously by only the title and a short description of the image in order to make the selection process as impartial as possible. The best photo will be awarded the Grand Prize - its creator will receive $10,000 and the winners in each category - $3,000. This year, the competition consists of four nominations - News, People & Lifestyle, Healthcare, Environment.

The winners will be announced in March 2022 at Expo 2020 Dubai at the Russian pavilion.

Mastercard, the multinational payment service corporation, is this year’s General Partner for the competition
